Unlike some of the father-son combinations that have played in the NHL, Ab Jr. is with the same team his father played for in the 40’s. The difference is, however, that the son is a defenseman while Ab Sr. was a forward. Ab, however, is an offensive-minded defenseman with a stinging slapshot. Had brief trials with Rangers during the last two seasons and appears ready to stay in the NHL this time.

Though he had mostly left the minors behind in 1971-72, Ab DeMarco played just 48 games for the New York Rangers. He did score his first NHL goal in a November 3, 1971 game against the Kings at the Los Angeles Forum. In the 7-1 win for the Rangers, DeMarco put one past L.A. goalie Denis DeJordy at 10:45 of the third, assisted by Pierre Jarry and Jim Neilson. The goal made the score 6-1 and got DeJordy pulled and replaced by Gary Edwards.

The following year, 1972-73, Ab was traded to the St. Louis Blues 51 games into the season. On March 1, 1973, he was shipped to the Blues for Mike Murphy. playing 14 games for St. Louis to finish out the campaign, DeMarco enjoyed nearly a point per game pace with 13.

In just his second game with the Blues, a 5-2 home win over the Boston Bruins on March 7, 1973, DeMarco had three points on two goals and an assist. At 3:56 of the first, he scored his first career shorthanded goal, putting the puck past Boston goalie Jacques Plante with Steve Durbano in the box. His second goal of the game, scored at 13:12 of the second, assisted by Garry Unger and Pierre Plante, served as the game winner.

Between 1969-70 and 1978-79, Ab Demarco played 344 regular season and 25 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins. He also played 47 regular season and one playoff game in the WHA, all with the Edmonton Oilers in 1977-78.
