Card Notes

At just 23 years-of-age Jacques Parker has played on no less than five National Hockey League teams – Toronto, Detroit, New York, Boston and Minnesota. He potted 33 goals on a line with Gordie Howe and Alex Delvecchio 1962-63. Very deft around the net.

Details

ERROR – or, should I say, ERROR Bonanza! First, Parker MacDonald was 35 when this card came out, not the spry age of 23. At 23, MacDonald had played for just the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers and that was back in the late 1950’s.

I’m not sure where the name Jacques Parker came from but there has never been an NHL player by that name. MacDonald is wearing number 8 on the front of the card. He wore numbers 16 and 14 during his time with the North Stars. In fact, he never wore number 8 during his entire NHL career. It was a Minnesota thing in this 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee set – for example, Cesare Maniago is wearing number 2 on the front of his card.

Parker did, however, score 33 goals with the Detroit Red Wings in 1962-63. This number placed him fifth in the National Hockey League but only five goals less than leader and teammate Gordie Howe who led with 38. This would prove to be MacDonald’s career year.

1965 proved to be an interesting year for Parker. After the end of the 1964-65 NHL season, on May 31, 1965, MacDonald was traded, along with Bob Dillabough, Ron Harris and Al Langlois to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Bob McCord, Ab McDonald and Ken Stephanson. After playing just 29 games for the Bruins to start 1965-66, he was dealt back to the Red Wings for Pit Martin.

This 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee card would prove to be his last. MacDonald played just 35 games for the North Stars that year before calling it a career. Between 1952-53 and 1968-69, Parker played 676 regular season and 75 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins and Minnesota North Stars.
