Card Notes

Originally a product of the Montreal farm system, Carol was a victim of “too much talent” and couldn’t be protected by the Canadiens. He’s a smooth skater and a hard-hitter and he served as captain of the Golden Seals before being traded.

Details

Carol Vadnais started the 1971-72 NHL season with the California Golden Seals but was traded to the Boston Bruins on February 23, 1972 with Don O’Donoghue for Reggie Leach, Rick Smith and Bob Stewart. He arrived in Boston in time to play 16 regular season game along with 15 in the playoffs, helping the Bruins capture the Stanley Cup championship.

Vadnais went scoreless in his first two games with the Bruins before having a two point night against the Vancouver Canucks in his third, on March 2, 1972. In that 7-3 Bruins win at Boston Garden, Carol assisted on Phil Esposito‘s 56th and 57th goals of the season, scored on Vancouver goalie Dunc Wilson. Esposito finished up with five points on three goals and two assists.

With the Bruins, he had three full years but was off to the New York Rangers 12 games into 1975-76. He was traded to the Blue Shirts on November 7, 1975 with Esposito for Brad Park, Jean Ratelle and Joe Zanussi.

Between 1966-67 and 1982-83, Carol Vadnais played 1,087 regular season and 106 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, California Golden Seals, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. Along with his Cup win with Boston, Vadnais played a single game for Habs in the 1967-68 Stanley Cup final as the team captured the title.
