One of the most popular North Stars, Lou was captain of the United States Olympic Team at Grenoble, France in 1968. He’s a very versatile player and can also play defense in addition to right wing. Last season was his best ever, and Lou is also noted as a tremendous checking forward.

It turned out that 1971-72 was a career year for Lou Nanne. His 21 goals, 28 assists and 49 points with the Minnesota North Stars were all career highs. As for the Winter Olympics at Grenoble, France in 1968, Nanne scored two goals as he captained the U.S. squad to a sixth place finish.

In the 1970-71 Stanley Cup playoffs, Nanne helped the North Stars take out the St. Louis Blues in the opening round, four games to two. It was just the team’s second ever series win and it knocked the Blues out, a team that had reached the finals in the three previous seasons.

In game five of the series, Lou scored the winning goal for Minnesota on the legendary Glenn Hall with assists going to Murray Oliver and Tom Reid. He also added an assist in the 4-3 win. He had the game tying goal in the series clinching sixth game. He also had the game winning goal in game two of the following series against the Montreal Canadiens, a matchup that would ultimately end with the Habs eliminating the North Stars in six games.

Between 1967-68 and 1977-78, Lou Nanne appeared in 635 regular season and 32 playoff games in the National Hockey League. Despite early in his hockey career being offered a contract by the Chicago Blackhawks, Nanne played his entire NHL career with the Minnesota North Stars.
