Details
Jim Pappin missed a number of games again in 1971-72 but still managed to score 27 goals for the Chicago Blackhawks. The following year, 1972-73, he had a career year with 41 goals, 51 assists and 92 points. The goal total that season tied him for sixth in the NHL with Jean Ratelle and Garry Unger. His 92 points placed him tenth in the race for the Art Ross Trophy.
In the 1970-71 playoffs, Pappin scored ten goals in 18 games, one less than team leader Bobby Hull. The Blackhawks lost in the Stanley Cup final to the Montreal Canadiens. He had a hat trick in game four of a quarter-final sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored two goals on Ken Dryden in a game 6 loss to the Habs in the final. Pete Mahovlich scored a shorthand game winner in the third to even the series at 3-3.
Pappin was a two time Stanley Cup champion with the Toronto Maple Leafs. As a rookie in 1963-64, he had no points over eleven games in the post season. However, in 1966-67, Jim was an offensive force for the Buds, scoring seven and assisting on eight for 15 points over 12 games.
Between 1963-64 and 1976-77, Jim Pappin played 767 regular season and 92 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Maple Leafs, Blackhawks, California Seals and Cleveland Barons. Along with his two Stanley Cup wins, Pappin also helped the Rochester Americans to three Calder Cup titles in the AHL.
