Card Notes

Milt is considered one of the best there ever was. One of the oldest players in the league – 16 years – he’s a top-notch skater, stick-handler, play-maker and scorer, and a 60 minute man! He was on the “All-Star” team in 1946-47 and 50-51 and on the alternate team last year. He was voted “most valuable player” in 1950-51 and his lifetime record of 497 points places him 4th among top point-getters.

Details

Milt Schmidt was still going strong as leader of the Boston Bruins in 1952-53. Despite the team finishing the regular season with a losing record, Boston edged the Toronto Maple Leafs by two points for the final playoff spot. After upsetting the first seed Detroit Red Wings in the opening round, the Bruins fell to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup final.

Schmidt’s only Hart Trophy win came in 1950-51 when he led the Bruins with 61 points on 22 goals and 39 assists over 62 games. His point total placed him in a three way tie for fourth spot in the NHL with Sid Abel and Ted Kennedy, a distant 25 points behind leader Gordie Howe.

Between 1936-37 and 1954-55, Milt Schmidt played in 776 regular season and 86 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Boston Bruins. He was a two time Stanley Cup champ with the Bruins along with being named a First Team All-Star three times and a Second Team All-Star once. Schmidt was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961 and his jersey number 15 was retired by the Bruins in 1980.
