Despite his size, Yvan is one of the trickiest performers in the NHL. He’s a power play specialist and led all Montreal goal scorers last season with 47. Because of his speed, the opposition is often forced to assign a “shadow” to Cournoyer.

The 47 goals Yvan Cournoyer scored for the Montreal Canadiens in 1971-72 would stand as a career best. It started a streak of three consecutive seasons topping 40 goals. Six of the 47 came in a pair of hat tricks, one against the California Golden Seals and one against the Philadelphia Flyers.
A steady goal scorer, Cournoyer scored no less that 24 goals in a run of 12 consecutive seasons between 1966-67 and 1977-78. He topped 30 goals in six seasons. His 428 goals with the Habs still places him fourth all-time behind just Maurice Richard, Guy Lafleur and Jean Beliveau.
Between 1963-64 and 1978-79, Yvan Cournoyer appeared in 968 regular season and 147 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. He was part of ten Stanley Cup championship teams, played all eight games of the 1972 Summit Series for Team Canada against the Soviet Union and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.
