Details
Slight Error on the back of this 1983-84 O-Pee-Chee Wilf Paiement hockey card, more of a typo really. In the English info section, they call him Will and not Wilf.
1983-84 was Paiement’s second full season with the Quebec Nordiques and it was nearly a career year offensively. Wilf scored 39 and assisted on 37 for 76 points, good for fourth on the offensively stacked Nords, behind Michel Goulet, Peter Stastny and Dale Hunter.
One of Wilf’s best games of the 1983-84 NHL season came against the team that traded him to Quebec. On March 9, 1982, he was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Miroslav Frycer. On October 19, 1983, his Nordiques paid a visit to Maple Leaf Gardens and came away with an 8-1 win.
In the game, Paiement had four points on a goal and three assists. His goal, scored at 18:55 of the first on Toronto goalie Mike Palmateer and assisted by Andre Savard, made the score 2-1 for the visitors and served as the game winning goal. Tony McKegney, Peter Stastny and Savard also all had four point games.
Between 1974-75 and 1987-88, Wilf Paiement played 946 regular season and 69 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Kansas City Scouts, Colorado Rockies, Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was the second overall pick by the Scouts at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft and went on to have 12 seasons with at least 20 goals.
