Details
Tom Lysiak would lead the Atlanta Flames in scoring over the next three years (1975-76 to 1977-78), as well. He will forever be the team’s all-time leader in assists and points. Lysiak was traded from Atlanta to the Chicago Blackhawks on March 13, 1979 with Greg Fox, Harold Phillipoff, Pat Ribble and Miles Zaharko for Ivan Boldirev, Darcy Rota and Phil Russell.
Tom did finish second to Denis Potvin in the voting for the Calder Trophy in 1973-74. It was a very tight race with Potvin taking 36% of the votes and Lysiak taking 33%. Also in the running were Borje Salming, Dennis Ververgaert and John Davidson. Potvin and Lysiak went 1-2 in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft.
He led the WCHL (WHL) in scoring in 1971-72 and 1972-73 while playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers. Previously, Bobby Clarke of the Flin Flon Bombers was the only player to win the Bob Brownridge Trophy (since renamed the Bobby Clarke Trophy) twice. To date, just Brian Propp and Rob Brown have accomplished the same feat.
Between 1973-74 and 1985-86, Lysiak played in 919 regular season and 76 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Flames and Blackhawks. He topped the 30 goal plateau three times, twice with Atlanta and once with Chicago.
