Audio Version:
Tim’s strongest suit has been his playmaking capabilities but his goal-scoring shows onlookers that he also knows where the net is. He represented North Stars in the 1976-77 NHL All-Star Game.
En Français
Le talent principal de Tim réside dans la préparation du jeu et les passes, mais il peut aussi marquer des buts lorsque le filet est devant lui. Il représenta les North Stars lors du match des étoiles de la LNH de 1976-77.
Details
Tim Young’s goal scoring ability was on full display during the 1978-79 NHL season, in a January 15, 1979 game at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers. Young’s Minnesota North Stars had little trouble with the Blue Shirts, winning the game 9-1. Tim had five of those nine goals, putting just five shots on the New York nets.
In that game, Doug Soetaert was in goal for the first three Young goals while Wayne Thomas came in relief for the third period, allowing goals number four and five. Tim also assisted on the first goal of the game by Jim Roberts for a six point night. Gilles Meloche was in goal for the North Stars and got an assist on one of Tim’s goals.
Despite originally being a first round pick by the Los Angeles Kings at the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft after a stellar junior career with the Ottawa 67’s, Young never played for that team and the bulk of his NHL career was spent with Minnesota. He never replicated the 163 point season he had with Ottawa in 1974-75 but had a decent career best of 95 in 1976-77.
Between 1975-76 and 1984-85, Tim Young appeared in 628 regular season and 36 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the North Stars, Winnipeg Jets and Philadelphia Flyers.
