Card Notes
This is the last Steve Kraftcheck hockey card from his NHL days. As the back of the card says, Steve was returned to the AHL early in 1958-59. He played just eight games for the Toronto Maple Leafs that year, his last in the National Hockey League.
However, it turned out to be a pretty good year for Kraftcheck just the same. Steve was honoured with the Eddie Shore Award as the American Hockey League’s best defenseman. In 60 games with the Rochester Americans, Kraftcheck scored two goals and added 37 assists from the blue line.
Between 1949-50 and 1963-64, Kraftcheck played in 839 regular season and 74 playoff games in the AHL. He appeared with the Cleveland Barons, Indianapolis Capitals, Rochester Americans and Providence Reds. Eleven years after his death, Steve was inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame in 2008.
