Details

In 1963-64, Mikita led the NHL with a slim two point advantage over teammate Bobby Hull to earn the Art Ross Trophy for the first of four times. The following year, his 87 points were enough for his second consecutive Art Ross win, four points ahead of Norm Ullman of the Detroit Red Wings.

Though he dropped to a Second Team All-Star in 1964-65, he would again be on the First Team for three more consecutive campaigns from 1965-66 to 1967-68. In that 1964-65 NHL season, it was Norm Ullman taking First Team honours.

1964-65 marked the end of a personal era for Mikita as “scrappy”. His 154 penalty minutes placed him seventh in the league, 23 PIM behind leader Carl Brewer of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The following year, his time in the box dropped to just 58 minutes. By 1966-67, he was a Lady Byng Trophy winner in consecutive seasons.

Between 1958-59 and 1979-80, Stan Mikita appeared in 1,394 regular season and 155 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
