Details
Ron Sedlbauer put up a career year in 1978-79, scoring more than double his goal output of any other season in the NHL with 40. Included, was his second of three career hat tricks. On November 28, 1978 at the Checkerdome in a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Blues, Ron scored Vancouver’s first two goals of the game and their last. In the game, he led the Canucks with six of the 45 shots put on Phil Myre while also assisting on a Roland Eriksson goal for a four point game.
The year before, 1977-78, Sedlbauer was awarded not one but two penalty shots, both in games against the New York Islanders. In the first, he was stopped by Billy Smith in a 9-2 loss and in the second it was Glenn Resch putting the brakes on his attempt in a 5-2 loss.
The second round pick by the Canucks at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft would start 1979-80 with 32 games for the Canucks before a December 21, 1979 trade sent him to the Chicago Blackhawks for Dave Logan and Harold Phillipoff.
Between 1974-75 and 1980-81, Ron Sedlbauer played 430 regular season and 19 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored just a single goal in the post season, but it was a game winner.
On April 9, 1980, Sedlbauer scored for the Blackhawks, assisted by Doug Wilson, to give Chicago a 2-0 lead over the St. Louis Blues. Chicago would win the game 5-1. The victory game the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead in the series and they would go on to sweep the best of five in three games. Ron was responsible for four of the 36 shots put on Mike Liut in the game.
