Details

A bit of an error card. “Rogatien shared the Vezina Trophy with Gump Worsley his first year in the NHL.” In fact, it was Rogie Vachon’s second season in the NHL. The two goalies, now both enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame, combined for the Vezina in 1967-68. In 1966-67, Vachon’s real first year, he appeared in 19 games for the Habs.

Rogie would appear in 47 games for Montreal in 1970-71, sharing duties with Phil Myre and Ken Dryden. However, when it came to the Stanley Cup playoffs, it was Dryden appearing in all 20 games for the Canadiens, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy.

The following year, 1971-72, Vachon appeared in a single game with Montreal before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Going to Montreal were Denis DeJordy, Noel Price, Doug Robinson and Dale Hoganson. Despite the trade looking lopsided, the Kings came out the victor. In the end, the Canadiens simply had too much young talent between the pipes and Rogie was the man to go.
