Details

Despite a great NHL career putting 371 pucks into the net, the shorthanded goal mentioned on the back of this 1975-76 O-Pee-Chee hockey card turned out to be the only one Rick Kehoe would score. This happened in just Rick’s third game as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

On October 19, 1974, the Pens hosted the Philadelphia Flyers at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena. At 8:42 of the first period, Kehoe scored the first goal of the game while Vic Hadfield was serving a minor for holding. The goal was scored on Flyers goalie Wayne Stephenson, assisted by Ron Schock. Unfortunately, the Flyers won the game 6-3.

Kehoe would top the 30 goal plateau four more times over his NHL career. In 1980-81, he scored a personal best 55 goals. He was the third Penguins to top 50 goals behind Jean Pronovost and Pierre Larouche. The mark stood as a team record until Mario Lemieux showed up. That year, he tied for fourth in the NHL with Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers.

Between 1971-72 and 1984-85, Rick Kehoe played 906 regular season and 39 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins. Rick won the Lady Byng Trophy in 1980-81 when he sat just three minor penalties to go with his 55 goals over 80 games.
