Card Notes
As the card says, Red Berenson exploded for a six goal game during the 1968-69 National Hockey League season. Sure, others have done it, although few. But, this performance stands alone even today as the only time a player from the away team has notched six goals in a single game.
It happened on November 7, 1968. The St. Louis Blues were visiting the Spectrum in Philadelphia to play the Flyers. In net for the home team was Doug Favell. Berenson’s six goal performance overshadowed the shutout by Jacques Plante in the 8-0 win. According to Red, it was almost a seven goal night with one of his shots ringing off the crossbar late in the game.
Despite the insane offensive era that revolved around Gretzky and Lemieux, there have only been eight players in NHL history to score 6 or more goal in a single game. Darryl Sittler was the last in 1976 (his record setting 10 point game against the Bruins).
