On June 4, 1963, Phil Goyette was involved in a blockbuster trade between the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. Going with him to Manhattan were Don Marshall and Jacques Plante. Heading to the Habs were Dave Balon, Leon Rochefort, Len Ronson and Gump Worsley.
The Lady Byng Trophy winner in 1969-70 as a member of the St. Louis Blues, Goyette topped out with 18 penalty minutes during the 1961-62 NHL season with the Canadiens. 1969-70 was also his best season offensively, scoring 29 goals and totaling 78 points.
Phil Goyette played 941 regular season and 94 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1956-57 and 1971-72 with the Canadiens, Rangers, Blues and Buffalo Sabres. He was a four time Stanley Cup champion with the Habs and served as the first ever head coach of the New York Islanders.
