Peter enjoyed one of the most outstanding rookie campaigns in NHL history last season. He was recognized as the league’s Rookie of the Year as his 109 points led the Nordiques. He also added 11 power play goals along with 4 game winning goals.

Peter Stastny was a NHL rookie in 1980-81 after playing five years of pro hockey in Czechoslovakia (Slovakia). He burst on the scene, scoring 39 goals and assisting on 70 for 109 points with the Quebec Nordiques. The point total placed him sixth in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, a distant 55 points behind leader Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers.

Stastny was awarded the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year with a considerable edge in voting over second place Larry Murphy of the Los Angeles Kings. Peter also had some consideration for the Hart Trophy and Lady Byng.

This began a string of six consecutive seasons with 100 points or more, also accomplishing the feat in seven of his first eight seasons. His best season came in 1981-82 with 139 points, good for third in the league behind Gretzky and Mike Bossy.

Between 1980-81 and 1994-95, Peter Stastny appeared in 977 regular season and 93 playoff games in the National Hockey League. Along with the Nordiques, he also played for the New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998 and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2000.
