Details
That first shutout came on February 8, 1975 at home at the Metropolitan Sports Center. Going into the game, the Flyers were 33-12-7 while the Minnesota North Stars were off in the other direction at 13-32-6.
Pete LoPresti turned away 26 shots for the shutout against a Philly team that had all their firepower in the lineup. The North Stars won 5-0. Dennis Hextall put up the “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” with a goal and assist, along with a first period fight with Jack McIlhargey. Hextall threw in a couple second period minors for good measure.
The downfall of the Flyers was their 65 penalty minutes versus just 29 for the North Stars. Dave Schultz amassed nearly half of those minutes with 31.
This was one of just five shutouts for Pete LoPresti over his NHL career. He played in the league from 1974-75 to 1980-81 with the North Stars and Edmonton Oilers.
