Card Notes
“Pete set a record for the California club January 3, 1973, when he became the first Seal ever to score four goals in a game.”
Pete Laframboise did indeed become the first member of the California Golden Seals to score four goals in a game. On January 3, 1973, at home at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena, the Seals pounded the Canucks 11-3.
Laframboise scored one in the first, one in the second (a power play goal) and two in the third period. Hilliard Graves assisted on all four. For the Golden Seals rookie, it was goals number 7, 8, 9 and 10 on the season. He would go on to score 16 in 1972-73, by far his best year in the NHL.
In the short history of the franchise, the feat was equaled (but not beat) three times. Ivan Boldirev scored four in a game against the St. Louis Blues the following season. Both Gary Sabourin and Denis Maruk accomplished the feat early in the 1975-76 NHL season. Maruk would have another four goal game as a member of the Cleveland Barons in 1976-77.
