Details

Pat Quinn was the 34th pick at the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft, taken by the Atlanta Flames from the Vancouver Canucks. Despite this lower draft position, Quinn went on to be a mainstay with the Flames for the franchise’s first five seasons and served as team captain in his final two years, 1975-76 and 1976-77.

In 1972-73, Quinn was off his career high but still led the Flames with 113 minutes in penalties. In 1974-75, he would sit a career high 156 PIM, enough for the team lead. Offensively, his best season would come in 1973-74.

That year, Pat scored five goals and assisted on 27 for 32 points. He had a pair of three point games that year, including a goal and two assists against the Detroit Red Wings on November 29, 1973 at the Omni in Atlanta. His goal, the second of the 1973-74 NHL season for Quinn, served as the game winner in a 4-3 win. He also assisted on the first two goals of the game, both scored by Chuck Arnason.

Between 1968-69 and 1976-77, Pat Quinn played 606 regular season and eleven playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Flames. He then embarked on a lengthy career as head coach in the NHL, going to the Stanley Cup final twice, once with Philadelphia Flyers and once with the Vancouver Canucks. He was a two-time Jack Adams Award.
