Details
Mike Walton scored 40 goals and assisted on 44 for 84 points over 68 games with the Tulsa Oilers during the 1964-65 CPHL season. He was honoured with the rookie of the year award. He helped the Oilers reach the final before losing to the Fred Shero coached St. Paul Rangers.
Walton played just six games for the Maple Leafs in 1965-66. In fact, it wasn’t until 1967-68 before he became a true regular in the National Hockey League. That was definitely a breakout year for Mike, scoring 30 goals for Toronto. That would turn out to be a career high for him in the NHL. However, Walton would score 57 with the Minnesota Fighting Saints during the 1973-74 WHA season.
Between 1965-66 and 1978-79, Mike Walton played 588 regular season and 47 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks. He also played 211 regular season and 23 playoff games in the WHA between 1973-74 and 1975-76 with the Minnesota Fighting Saints. Mike was a two time Stanley Cup champion, once with Toronto and once with the Bruins.
