Card Notes
Mickey is one of the few players in the NHL who can use equally well the slap shot or the wrist shot. Mickey, after two seasons as a utility player, developed into a goal scorer in 1969-70, scoring 27 times and getting as many assists – a graduate of the Peterborough Petes of the OHA Junior A league (OHL).
Developed into a goal scorer indeed. Redmond was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Detroit Red Wings 40 games into the 1970-71 season (With Guy Charron and Bill Collins for Frank Mahovlich). In his first three full seasons in Motown, he scored 42, 52 and 51 goals. Unfortunately, the injury bug took hold after the 1973-74 season and Mickey’s NHL career was all but over.
He could score goals in junior, as well. In his final season with the Petes, 1966-67, he scored 51 goals in just 48 games. He led the league in goal scoring and finished second for points behind just Derek Sanderson of the Niagara Falls Flyers. He accomplished this on a weak Peterborough team that finished second last in the regular season standings.
