As for the trivia, two players have since topped Larry Murphy’s rookie record of 76 points with the Los Angeles Kings. In 1986-87, both Luc Robitaille and Jimmy Carson topped the mark with Lucky Luc now holding the franchise record with 84 points while Carson had 79. Murphy’s record stands as the most by a defenseman. At the time, he beat Bob Berry’s record of 63 points in 1970-71.

In 1982-83, Dionne scored 56 goals. It was the last of six seasons scoring 50 or more goals in a season. His career best came in 1978-79 when he scored 59. Marcel would go on to score 731 over his NHL career, ranking him sixth all-time behind Wayne Gretzky, Alex Ovechkin, Gordie Howe, Jaromir Jagr and Brett Hull.

Between 1971-72 and 1988-89, Marcel Dionne played 1,348 regular season and 49 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. The three time Lady Byng Trophy winner earned the Art Ross Trophy in 1979-80, tying Wayne Gretzky for the NHL lead with 137 points each. Dionne was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.
