Card Notes

One of NHL’s most exciting players, he’s a tremendous skater and a great playmaker with superb speed and a strong shot. His greatest asset is ability to cut to the sides as fast as most players skate forward.

En Français

Un des joueurs les plus intéressants dans la LNH, ce centre sait organiser le jeu. Il est rapide et son lancer est puissant. Marcel peut s’élancer sur les côtés aussi vite que les autres joueurs patinent vers l’avant.

Details

1977-78 would turn out to be a bit of a setback in Marcel Dionne’s NHL career. He missed ten games during the regular season, scored 36 goals and totaled 79 points. This was down from his 53 goals and 122 points in 1976-77.

Dionne would bounce back in 1978-79 with 59 goals and 71 assists for 130 points. It was the first of five consecutive seasons with at least 50 goals and 107 points.

With Dionne went the Kings. In 1977-78, Los Angeles finished below .500 and were bounced in the preliminary round by the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0. Better things were on the way for the team, however. Dave Taylor did well in his rookie season and Charlie Simmer appeared in his first three games with the Kings after coming over from the Cleveland Barons. The Trio of Dionne, Taylor and Simmer would thrill the California crowds for several years.

Between 1971-72 and 1988-89, Marcel Dionne played in 1,349 regular season and just a modest 49 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.
