Details

1975-76 was Marcel Dionne’s first year with the Los Angeles Kings after coming over from the Detroit Red Wings in a June 23, 1975 trade with Bart Crashley for Terry Harper and Dan Maloney. He made an immediate impact, leading the Kings with 40 goals, 54 assists and 94 points.

Dionne also helped Los Angeles to just their second playoff series win since joining the league in 1967-68. He scored six goals in nine games as the Kings swept the Atlanta Flames two games to none in the opening preliminary round before taking the Boston Bruins to full seven in the second round.

All his six goals in the 1975-76 playoffs came in the series against the Bruins. He scored two in game two, setting up Butch Goring‘s overtime winner as the Kings evened the series at 1-1. He upped his game in the third match, putting up a hat trick on Boston goalie Gilles Gilbert, helping Los Angeles to a 6-4 win and a 2-1 series lead.

In 1976-77, Marcel became the first player in the history of the Los Angeles Kings to score 50 goals in a season. He finished with 53 goals and 122 points. It was the first of six times he would surpass the 50 goals plateau with the club.

Between 1971-72 and 1988-89, Marcel Dionne appeared in 1,348 regular season and 49 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. The Art Ross Trophy winner (shared) in 1979-80 was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.
