Details

In 1969-70, Tardif had an outstanding season with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the AHL, totaling 58 points in 45 regular season games while also seeing his first 18 games in the NHL with Montreal. In the Calder Cup playoffs, he was second on the team with nine points in eight games, behind only Guy Charron and his 12 points. The Voyageurs finished first overall but lost out in a second round three team round-robin.

Of his 19 goals in 1970-71, three came on the night of December 27, 1970 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The Habs won the game 4-2, powered by the Tardif hat trick. Assisting on all three goals was Yvan Cournoyer while Jean Beliveau was in on two. His three goals came on just four shots put toward Philadelphia goalie Doug Favell.

Following his rookie season, Marc reached the 20 goal plateau in each of his NHL seasons. Of course, his greatness came between 1973-74 and 1978-79 when he was superstar in the World Hockey Association. He appeared in 446 regular season and 44 playoff games in the WHA with the Los Angeles Sharks, Michigan Stags and Quebec Nordiques. He won two championships with Quebec, was named MVP twice and led the league in scoring twice.

Between 1969-70 and 1982-83, Marc Tardif appeared in 517 regular season and 62 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Canadiens and Nordiques. He is the WHA’s all-time leading career goal scorer and was inducted into the WHA Hall of Fame in 2010.
