Details
Lou Nanne played for the United States at the 1968 Winter Olympic Games. He shared the team captain role with Herb Brooks. The games were held in Grenoble, France and the U.S. finished sixth out of eight teams.
Nanne would return to captain the U.S. National Team at both the 1976 and 1977 IIHF World Championships. In 1976, the tournament was held in Katowice and his team finished fourth. The following year, the championship was hosted by Vienna, Austria and the U.S.A. placed sixth.
1969-70 would be the year that Lou became a full-time NHL defenseman. However, it was the end of the line for coach Wren Blair who was replaced midseason by Charlie Burns.
Lou would play his entire NHL career with the Minnesota North Stars. He appeared in 635 regular season and 32 Stanley Cup playoff games between 1967-68 and 1977-78. He moved on to the general manager’s role with the North Stars and was inducted into the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame, as well as, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
