Card Notes

1961-62 would be an injury-shortened season for Jean Beliveau, appearing in just 43 games. Still, he contributed 41 points on 18 goals and 23 assists. Le Gros Bill was able to put up two 4-point games later in the season.

On March 22, 1962, in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Montreal Forum, Beliveau was in on all four goals. He assisted on two goals by Gilles Tremblay and a single by Al MacNeil. His goal on Toronto goalie Don Simmons at 19:20 of the first, assisted by Dickie Moore and Jean Guy Talbot, made the score 2-1 and served as the game winner.

Despite returning to full-time in 1962-63, missing just one regular season game, Beliveau again scored 18 goals but more than doubled his assist total with 49. That placed him second in the NHL, a single helper behind teammate Henri Richard and one ahead of Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings.

Between 1950-51 and 1970-71, Jean Beliveau played 1,125 regular season and 162 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. He was a two-time winner of the Hart Trophy, won the Art Ross Trophy once and was the first ever recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy. The ten-time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
