Details
Jean Beliveau’s numbers dropped for 1959-60 after an amazing season in 1958-59, partly due to missing ten games during the regular season. Although, Beliveau hadn’t played all 70 games for the Montreal Canadiens since 1955-56. In fact, over his lengthy NHL career, Le Gros Bill played a full schedule just twice.
In 1958-59, Jean scored 45 goals and added 56 assists for a career high 91 points. He led the NHL in goal scoring but was five points behind teammate Dickie Moore in the quest for his second Art Ross Trophy win. He would never win another but would grab his second Hart Trophy a few years later.
Between 1950-51 and 1970-71, Jean Beliveau appeared in 1,125 regular season and 162 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. He would increase his goal total to 507 and finished his NHL career with 1,219 regular season points. Jean was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
