Card Notes
Versatile Jacques can play either center or left wing with equal talent. His goal from 80 feet away spurred Montreal to triumph in the 1971 Stanley Cup finals. Jacques gets the puck away as quickly as anyone in the NHL. He’s good at anticipating plays.
Details
The goal that is written about on the back of the card occurred at 14:18 of the second period in game 7 of the 1971 final. The Chicago Blackhawks were up 2-0 and looked like they had the game, and the Stanley Cup championship in hand.
Jacques Lemaire took a shot from the red line, beating Tony Esposito to put the score at 2-1. Before the period was over, Henri Richard tied the game with an assist going to Lemaire. It was Richard at 2:34 of the third period who put the game and the series away for the Habs. Of course, Ken Dryden stopping 31 of 33 shots certainly helped the cause.
