Card Notes
His stinging slap shot is second in speed only to Bobby Hull’s, but Jacques is not the flashy type. He’s very versatile and can play all three forward positions plus kill penalties. He’s a quiet, clean player, but most effective.
Details
At the time this 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee Jacques Lemaire hockey card came out, he had completed just two seasons in the National Hockey League. However, his comparison to Bobby Hull was a decent one. Lemaire didn’t quite put up the numbers that the Golden Jet did but he was a 20+ goal scorer in all 12 seasons he played in the NHL. He scored 30+ in six of those seasons.
Jacques had a career best 44 goals for the Montreal Canadiens in 1972-73. That total placed him fourth in the NHL, behind Phil Esposito, Mickey Redmond and Rick MacLeish. His 95 points placed him fifth in the race for the Art Ross Trophy that year.
Over his relatively short NHL career, Lemaire totaled 366 goals in 853 regular season games. His 61 goals in 145 playoff games helped the Canadiens to eight Stanley Cup championships during his 12 years in the league. Jacques was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.
