Details

Inge Hammarstrom’s five game winning goals for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1975-76 accounted for just over 25% of his total goals. He was second on the team in the category, two behind leader Errol Thompson and one ahead of Lanny McDonald.

Two of game winners came in games against the New York Rangers. On October 18, 1975 at Maple Leaf Gardens, he scored Toronto’s second goal of the game at 16:15 of the first period on Ed Giacomin, assisted by George Ferguson and Ian Turnbull. It was all the Leafs needed in a 4-1 win. Inge also assisted on the first goal of the game by Jim McKenny for a two point game.

At Madison Square Garden on January 4, 1976, Hammarstrom had a pair of goals in an 8-6 win. His second, scored at 12:36 of the third period on John Davidson, assisted by Darryl Sittler and Bob Neely, was the seventh of the game for Toronto and held on for the game winner.

1976-77 would turn out to be a career year for Hammarstrom in the NHL. He scored 24 goals for the Maple Leafs, his third of four teams reaching the 20 goal plateau. His time in Toronto would come to an end early in 1977-78. After playing three games for the Leafs to start the season, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues on November 1, 1977 for Jerry Butler.

Between 1973-74 and 1978-79, Inge Hammarstrom played 427 regular season and 13 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Maple Leafs and Blues. He also had a lengthy pro career in Sweden.
