Details
At the 1972 Winter Olympic Games in Sapporo, Japan, Henry Boucha contributed six points in six games for the United States as the U.S. captured a silver medal. Less than two weeks later, he was playing for the Detroit Red Wings. In his first NHL game, he scored his first NHL goal. On February 22, 1972, he scored for Detroit on Toronto goalie Jacques Plante, assisted by Mickey Redmond and Bob Wall – we look deeper at that game in the Facebook post below.
In his first full season in the NHL, 1972-73, Boucha scored 14 and assisted on 14 for 28 points in 73 games with Detroit. Unfortunately, an eye injury would put a premature end to Henry’s NHL career by the 1976-77 season.
Between 1971-72 and 1976-77, Henry Boucha played 247 regular season games in the National Hockey League with the Red Wings, Minnesota North Stars, Kansas City Scouts and Colorado Rockies. He did not appear in a post season game. In the WHA, Henry played 36 games with the Minnesota Fighting Saints in 1975-76. Boucha was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995.
