Card Notes
New York’s veteran defenseman, Harry is starting his 16th year as a Ranger. Last season he played perhaps the best hockey of his 15 years in the NHL. Was named #1 defenseman on the NHL All-Star Team and awarded the James Norris Trophy as best NHL defenseman.
Details
Offensively, 1966-67 would prove to be a career year in the NHL for Harry Howell, a big deal considering he played 21 (plus three in the WHA). His 12 goals and 40 points were personal bests.
His Calder Trophy win was significant. Harry Howell was the last winner of the trophy before Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins dominated the award for an amazing eight consecutive years.
Howell would play the 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons with the Rangers before ending up in California with the Golden Seals. He then moved to the Los Angeles Kings before a three year career ending stint in the World Hockey Association with the New York Golden Blades, San Diego Mariners and Calgary Cowboys.
