Details
Guy Trottier was a prolific scorer in the IHL, to say the least. In 1965-66, playing for the Dayton Gems, he scored 68 goals and assisted on 64 for 132 points in 66 regular season games. Surprisingly, his goals total was good for just third in the IHL, four behind leader Merv Dubchak of the Fort Wayne Komets. Trottier wasn’t even the league’s overall scoring leader, finishing in second, one point behind Bobby Rivard of the Komets.
Despite finishing the 1965-66 IHL season two games below .500 and in the fourth and final playoff position, Guy helped the Gems reach the final before losing to the third seed Port Huron Flags. Trottier contributed ten goals and nine assists for 19 points over eleven playoff games.
The following year, he was back at it, leading the Gems with 71 goals and 64 assists for 135 points over 67 games. This time, Trottier led the IHL in goal scoring with a 19 goal cushion over the second place Dubchak. He was second in overall scoring, four points behind leader Len Thornson from Fort Wayne.
With the Fred Shero coached Buffalo Bisons in the AHL, Guy continued to put pucks in the net. In 1968-69, he led the league with 45 goals and was third in overall scoring with 82 points. That year, Trottier appeared in his first two National Hockey League games with the New York Rangers.
In 1969-70, with the Rangers turning a blind eye to his offensive exploits, Trottier again led the American Hockey League, this time with 55 goals. He was again third in overall scoring with 88 points. He played a role in the Bisons taking the Calder Cup championship in the team’s last year of existence.

In the National Hockey League, Guy played a total of 115 regular season and nine Stanley Cup playoff games between 1968-69 and 1971-72. Most of his time in the NHL was spent with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1970-71 and 1971-72 seasons.
