Details

This 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Greg Millen rookie card contains an ERROR. It states that his first pro shutout was with Sault Ste. Marie in 1977-78. First, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds are an amateur junior team, not pro. Second, it wasn’t even his first shutout in the OMJHL (OHL). Millen recorded a pair of blanks with the Peterborough Petes in 1974-75.

In the NHL, Greg recorded 17 shutouts over 14 seasons. He led the league in 1988-89 with six as a member of the St. Louis Blues. In fact, shutouts accounted for six of his 22 wins that year. He recorded two against both the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders with singles against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota North Stars.

In that 1988-89 NHL season, Millen tied for fifth in voting for the Vezina Trophy with Grant Fuhr of the Edmonton Oilers. In All-Star voting, he finished third, behind First Team goalie Patrick Roy of the Montreal Canadiens and Mike Vernon of the Calgary Flames.

Greg is one of six NHL goalies to play for three different teams in a single season, just the second after Jim Rutherford played for the Red Wings, Maple Leafs and Kings in 1980-81. Millen started the 1989-90 campaign with the Blues. After 21 games, he was traded to the Quebec Nordiques for Jeff Brown.

He played 18 games for Quebec before ending up with the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade with Michel Goulet and Kevin St. Jacques for Mario Doyon, Everett Sanipass and Dan Vincelette. That trio played a combined total of 86 games for the Nordiques.

Between 1978-79 and 1991-92, Greg Millen played 604 regular season and 59 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings.
