Details
After just one year of major junior hockey in the WCHL with the Calgary Centennials (1973-74), Grant Mulvey was taken 16th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. He moved directly to the Hawks without any minor league seasoning.
In his rookie season, Grant scored seven goals over 74 regular season games. Four of the seven came in games against the St. Louis Blues, including his first NHL goal. In his fifth career game, on October 19, 1974 at the St. Louis Arena, his first career goal was also the game winner in a 3-1 Hawks victory. Mulvey scored on Ed Johnston at 5:15 of the first, unassisted. Jim Pappin had scored two minutes earlier and the two early goals were all the visitors needed.
Between 1974-75 and 1983-84, Grant Mulvey played 586 regular season and 42 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils. His career was mostly spent with the Hawks with just 12 games with the Devils.
