Details
For Glenn Resch, 1978-79 was his second and last time being selected as a Second Team All-Star. Previously, he was honoured in 1975-76. On both occasions, Ken Dryden of the Montreal Canadiens was selected to the First Team.
Originally property of the Canadiens, Glenn came to the Islanders for their inaugural 1972-73 season. He remained with the club until a March 10, 1981 trade sent him to the Colorado Rockies. Subsequently, Resch was only a member of one of New York’s Stanley Cup championships in their run of four straight.
Undrafted to the NHL, Glenn played NCAA hockey with the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 1967-68 to 1970-71. He made a splash in his pro hockey debut with the Muskegon Mohawks of the IHL in 1971-72. He helped the team to a first overall finish during the regular season and led the Mohawks to the final before falling to the Port Huron Wings in six games.
That year, Resch was named a First Team All-Star. As well, he was honoured with the James Norris Trophy as the goalie with the lowest goals against average, along with the Garry F. Longman Trophy as rookie of the year.
Playing with the Fort Worth Wings of the CHL in 1973-74, Resch was Most Valuable Player and would never play in the minors again. By 1974-75, Glenn and Billy Smith were sharing duties between the pipes for the Islanders.
Glenn played 571 regular season games in the National Hockey League between 1973-74 and 1986-87 with the Islanders, Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers.
