First off, this 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Glen Hanlon rookie card contains an ERROR. His three shutouts earned in 1978-79 with the Vancouver Canucks were the first of his NHL career and he the total of five is wrong. He would not get to five shutouts until the 1981-82 NHL season.

A third round pick by the Canucks at the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft, the junior standout with the Brandon Wheat Kings saw his first NHL action in 1977-78, playing four games with Vancouver. He spent much of the season in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers. He was the recipient of the Ken McKenzie Trophy as CHL rookie of the year.

Hanlon’s first game of the 1978-79 season was certainly interesting. The Canucks lost to the Minnesota North Stars 7-2 with Glen bombarded with 50 shots and making 43 saves. With less than a minute left in the game, a line brawl broke out that included a scrap between Hanlon and Minnesota goalie Gilles Meloche.

His first NHL shutout came in his fourth game of 1978-79, his eighth career game. Hanlon and the Canucks paid a visit to Chicago Stadium to take on the Blackhawks. Hanlon made 21 saves in the 1-0 win while Tony Esposito stopped 22 of 23 in the loss. Thomas Gradin scored the only goal of the game.

Between 1977-78 and 1990-91, Glen Hanlon played 476 regular season and 35 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. He finished his career with a 3.61 goals against average and 13 shutouts.
