Card Notes
“An original Colorado Rockie of 1976, Doug helped club to their 1st victory.”
On October 5, 1976, the Colorado Rockies played their first NHL regular season game after being located from Kansas City, Missouri, where they played as the Kansas City Scouts. The team played at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs and won the game 4-2.
Doug Favell made 39 saves for the Rockies in that historic game. He also received a minor penalty for slashing in the second period in a skirmish that involved teammate Tracy Pratt and Dave ‘Tiger’ Williams of the Maple Leafs.
Favell would also record the first shutout for Colorado. However, it was just over a full year before that would happen. On October 22, 1977, the Rockies hosted the Chicago Blackhawks and blanked their guests 3-0 on goals from Paul Gardner, Tom Edur and Dave Hudson. Favell stopped all 33 shots in the effort.
Unfortunately, Doug Favell never played for the Edmonton Oilers. His seven games with the Rockies in 1978-79 were the last of his playing career.
