“Helped Rockies to first win, 10-5-76.”
After relocating from the Kansas City Scouts, the Colorado Rockies played their first game on October 5, 1976. It was a home game played at the McNichol Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Doug Favell played the full 60 minutes, stopping 39 of 41 shots in a 4-2 victory. Larry Skinner, Nelson Pyatt, Dave Hudson and Wilf Paiement scored the Colorado goals with Pyatt’s being the game winner. Paiement also added two assists for a three point night.
Backing up Favell was Michel Plasse. In the Toronto net was Wayne Thomas, who stopped 31 of 35 shots.
Errol Thompson and Bob Neely scored the two Toronto goals in the losing effort. The only fight was a matchup between Lanny McDonald of the Maple Leafs and Colin Campbell of the Rockies.
