Details
Dick Redmond was the fifth overall pick by the Minnesota North Stars behind Rejean Houle, Marc Tardif, Don Tannahill and Frank Spring. He had played junior with the Peterborough Petes and St. Catharines Black Hawks. Redmond played a total of 16 games with Minnesota before a February 23, 1971 trade sent him to the California Golden Seals with Tommy Williams for Ted Hampson.
His time in Oakland would soon come to an end. 24 games into the 1972-73 NHL season, he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for Darryl Maggs. It was with Chicago where Dick took his game to the next level. He had a career best 59 points in 1973-74 and had a high of 22 goals in 1976-77.
In 1971-72 with the Seals, Redmond had three 3-point games. Two of those were just four days apart. On November 3, 1971 he recorded three assists in a 5-3 home win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. On November 7, he did the same against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In that game, eight different California players scored a goal on Toronto goalie Jacques Plante in an 8-1 home win.
Between 1969-70 and 1981-82, Dick Redmond played 771 regular season and 66 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Minnesota North Stars, California Golden Seals, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Flames and Boston Bruins.
