Details
Dennis Ververgaert did score two goals at the 1976 NHL All-Star game, played at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. What the card doesn’t say is that he scored those two goals within ten seconds of each other! In the third period, Ververgaert scored at 4:33. He then scored again at 4:43. Both goals were assisted by Bryan Trottier and Billy Harris, both from the New York Islanders.
Going into the third period, Dennis’ Campbell Conference team was down 7-1 to the Wales Conference team. Ververgaert’s quick goals and follow up goals by Denis Potvin and Steve Vickers made the final score a respectable 7-5 loss.
1975-76 was a career year for Ververgaert. He scored 37 goals and assisted on 34 for 71 points. He played 583 games in the National Hockey League between 1973-74 and 1980-81 with the Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.
Dennis also played in the 1978 NHL All-Star game. However, he was left off the scoresheet in a close 3-2 loss to the Wales Conference. The game was played at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium.
