Details
Dennis Hextall would add just 15 games to his NHL career total in 1979-80 before retiring as a player. The 692 that O-Pee-Chee mentions on the back of this hockey card includes playoffs as Dennis finished his career with 681 regular season and 22 playoff games.
Hextall might have been the senior man on that Washington Capitals team but Guy Charron wasn’t far behind. Charron was at game 654 going into 1979-80. Of course, Guy has the distinction of playing 734 regular season games but never appearing in a playoff match. A youngster on that Capitals team, Mike Gartner, would go on to more than double up Hextall’s games total with 1,432 in the regular season and 122 more in the playoffs.
Between 1967-68 and 1979-80, Dennis Hextall played for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, California Golden Seals, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals. Between the Kings and Golden Seals, he was a member of the Montreal Canadiens organization but never played a game for the Habs.
