Details
The NHL record referred to on the back of the card still stands today. Darryl Sittler remains the only player in National Hockey League history to put up ten points in a single game. What’s amazing is that no other player has had nine points in a game and there have been just 13 eight point games (11 different players).
Sittler’s 43 goals in 1982-83, his first full season with the Philadelphia Flyers, included two hat tricks. In both, Darryl added an assist for four point games. His numbers would decline in 1983-84 and he would find himself with the Detroit Red Wings in 84-85 for one last season in the NHL.
The eighth overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, out of the London Knights, went on to play 1,096 regular season and 76 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1970-71 and 1984-85 with the Maple Leafs, Flyers and Red Wings. Sittler and Gilbert Perreault are the only two players from that 1970 draft to play over 1,000 games in the NHL.
Darryl was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989. His jersey number 27 was retired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016. The honour was shared with Frank Mahovlich who also wore 27 during his days with the Buds.
