1964-65 was definitely the pinnacle of Claude Provost’s NHL career. He was named a First Team All-Star at right wing, relegating Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings to the Second Team. His 37 assists and 64 points were career highs. He finished sixth in the NHL for helpers and also sixth in the league for total points.
Provost’s career best goal production came a few years earlier. In 1961-62, he potted 33 goals for the Montreal Canadiens, his only time reaching the 30 goal plateau. That total placed him in a three way tie for second in the NHL with Gordie Howe and Frank Mahovlich. The trio were a distant 17 goals behind 50 goal scorer and leader Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Claude Provost played 1,005 regular season and 126 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1955-56 and 1969-70, all with the Montreal Canadiens. He is the only player to be part of eight Stanley Cup championships who is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
