Card Notes
The numbers for Claude Provost on the back of this 1961-62 Parkhurst hockey card showed no indication that he was heading into a career season with the Montreal Canadiens. Yet, 1961-62 was offensively the best of his National Hockey League career.
In his seventh of 15 seasons in the NHL, all with Montreal, Claude put up 33 goals and assisted on 29 for 62 points. He led the Habs in goal scoring and finished in a three way tie for the league lead with Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings and Frank Mahovlich of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The trio were left in the dust by Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks who put 50 pucks past NHL goalies that year.
Claude would have a 64 point season in 1964-65 but would never top the 30 goal plateau again. He played 1,005 regular season games in the NHL from 1955-56 to 1969-70, appearing in an additional 126 Stanley Cup playoff games. Provost was a nine time winner of the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens over his 15 years.
