1977-78 would be the finale of Claude Larose’s NHL career. He appeared in 69 games for the St. Louis Blues, scoring eight goals and adding 13 assists for 21 points. He was only 57 games away from playing 1,000. He was signed by the Birmingham Bulls of the WHA in December, 1978 but did not play for that club.

Larose had a career year in 1976-77, scoring 29 goals for the Blues. His career best in points came with the Minnesota North Stars in 1968-69 when he put up 62. In the span of a week in February, 1977, Claude scored the fourth and fifth hat tricks of his career.

On February 8, 1977 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the St. Louis Arena, Larose had a three goal third period. His first of the game, scored at 5:36 of the third on Dunc Wilson, assisted by Larry Patey and Bob MacMillan, made the score 4-1 and served as the game winner in the 6-3 St. Louis win. The Blues pounded Wilson with 51 shots in the game, nine off the stick of Larose.

After going scoreless in his next two games, Claude again put up three in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on February 15. Larose scored the first goal just 47 seconds into the match, putting his 23rd of the year past Tony Esposito. He was the only player to score in the second, putting two more past Tony-O.

Between 1962-63 and 1977-78, Claude Larose played 943 regular season and 97 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars and St. Louis Blues. The five time 20+ goal scorer was part of five Stanley Cup championship teams in Montreal.
