Details
In just their second game as an NHL franchise, Charlie Hodge recorded the first shutout in Oakland Seals history. Hosting the Minnesota North Stars at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena on October 14, 1967, Hodge turned away all 20 shots in the 6-0 win. Bill Hicke led Oakland with four assists and nine shots on net. Cesare Maniago had it a bit tougher in the North Stars nets, facing 38 shots.
In that 1967-68 NHL season, Charlie posted a 2.87 goals against average with three shutouts over 58 games. However, the following year, he played just 14 games, losing his number one role to Gary Smith. Hodge finished up the season in the WHL, helping the Vancouver Canucks win a championship.
Between 1954-55 and 1970-71, Charlie Hodge appeared in 358 regular season and 16 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Oakland Seals and Vancouver Canucks. He won a Stanley Cup championship with the Habs in 1964-65 and was the recipient of the Vezina Trophy in 1963-64 and 1965-66 (shared with Gump Worsley).
